Writing Resource: Wattpad

Welcome to the den, and the first installment of Nia’s Findings! Each week as I go thrifting through the internet trash (Some aren’t trash but you get my drift) to find some sweet treats you either know or maybe haven’t heard about. Ladies, gentlemen, and cats; lets begin.

My finds today… Wattpad!

Now I believe most people know what it is but If not let me give you the dictionary definition. *Puts on glasses, licks finger, squinting intensely at the page*

Wattpad is: A place to discover and share stories: a social platform that connects people through words. It is a community that spans borders, interests, languages. With Wattpad, anyone can read or write on any device: phone, tablet, or computer.

Wattpad - Where stories live

I’m going to go ahead and say basically all Wattpad is really a site for people to write stories of any kind and share, read stories, follow people, join book groups, get writing help, or talk about nothing. You get your own profile that you can set up, and tell about yourself, create reading lists, and tweak it to fit you. There is a voting system, options to comment and share stories as well. You can create cast lists and images as well in a side bar to assist your stories.

I will say I use Wattpad, not really like I use to and I post my own stories but I will spare your eyes from the horror of my works. (Maybe one millennium I will) I like Wattpad, its some good people and of course some bad. I joined a writing group and it actually helped me, we had a challenge of meeting the goal of 3,500 words plus. At the time for me starting to write it was difficult as well has having this deadline? Just terrible, but I greatly improve and now I can write double that amount with no problem. Everyone mostly on the site is either flat out beginners, college students, young adults, teens, some published authors, adults at all different ends of the writing process. There are options to even edit other people works if needed

Also for any people functional in photo shop, there is a big community of artists as well on Wattpad. I have seen some of the most beautifuliest (If that’s a word) covers ever imagined. People hold cover contests, make covers for others, profile pics, some even hand draw them. There are some unfriendlies and there are instances of people stories being stolen or ripped off. So my advice don’t put your best seller on the site. I would use stories that you feel for, but not passionate about on or stories if, (god forbid it happens) gets stolen it won’t be to much damage because anything stolen from you is damaging enough. You can’t copy and paste stories but all I can say is human ingenuity.

Overall the site is a pretty good stepping stone for anybody interested in writing and any feedback, your interested in editing stories, creating artwork, or just reading. I have some stories on Wattpad that make my over book top ten list and I have some favorite authors on the site as well.
